The state’s Working Families Party has endorsed Karen DuBois-Walton to be Connecticut’s next state treasurer.
That’s according to an email press release sent out on Tuesday by CT Working Families Party State Director Sarah Ganong.
The press release announced the party’s first three endorsement of the 2022 electoral season.
The Working Families Party — which often seeks a ballot line in municipal and state contests in order to cross-endorse progressive Democrats — has endorsed DuBois-Walton for treasurer, Matt Lesser for secretary of the state, and Sean Scanlon for comptroller.
DuBois-Walton, who currently works as New Haven’s public housing authority chief, and Lesser, a Democratic state senator from Middletown, are both competing in crowded, open fields to try to secure the Democratic nominations for their respective sought-for offices. New Haveners Erick Russell and Maritza Bond are also running for the Democratic nomination for state treasurer and secretary of state, respectively.
Tuesday’s endorsement comes several days before candidates for treasurer and secretary of the state, as well as for other uncontested statewide offices, will seek to win the Democratic Party’s endorsement and a spot on the August primary ballot by getting the votes of at least 15 percent of the delegates at the state party’s convention in Hartford.

I am proud to announce today the first three Connecticut Working Families Party endorsements for this election cycle: Senator Matt Lesser for Secretary of the State, Representative Sean Scanlon for State Comptroller, and Karen DuBois-Walton for State Treasurer.
Connecticut needs leaders who want to build a state that works for all of us, not a privileged few — and are willing to lead to accomplish this goal. Matt, Sean, and Karen are all committed to fighting for social justice in our state. They are proven leaders on issues that impact working families and can win all the way through the election in November.
In a season of national turmoil, we need leaders who will meet this moment. They must be ready to lead in how we manage and run elections, to ensure that all voices are heard at the ballot box. They must be ready to run our public sector finances and our healthcare system, ensuring that the state government works for all of us and not just the wealthy and well-connected.
Matt, Sean, and Karen are the leaders we need to move Connecticut forward. I am proud to announce our endorsement today in the Democratic primary — and I am looking forward to work with them to expand democracy and opportunity in our state.
Onward,
Sarah Ganong
