Who says there’s nothing for kids to do in New Haven?
Well, people do say that. So city government’s Youth Department has given families a map to where to find stuff for their kids to do, and how to get there.
The department Tuesday afternoon unveiled its new online “Youth Map“ at one of those busy young people’s spots, the Courtland Wilson Branch Library in the Hill.
Check out the new map here.
The map lets you scour the city from your computer screen. Icons link you to information about spots around town with youth programs and the bus lines that connect to them from other neighborhoods.
The map, designed by webbie Eudald Lerga (pictured), who moved here five years ago from Barcelona, also contains demographic information about the city, broken down by census tracts. He was assisted in the latter effort by a local research outfit called Data Haven.
“There’s a lot going on for young people in the city,” said Che Dawson, who heads the Youth Department. The new site is aimed at connecting people to all that.
Some two dozen kids and politicos attended Tuesday’s event.
