What began as a call about a fight led to a shutdown of a bar and grill over Covid-19 violations.
The club in question is Dixwell Social Lounge at 940 Dixwell Ave. in Hamden.
Police showed up there Sunday around 12:30 a.m. in response to a report about a fight.
So many cars were parked there, officers couldn’t get into the lot, according to Hamden police spokesperson Capt. Ronald Smith.
“Officers subsequently observed approximately 500 people on scene. The investigating officer reported that he didn’t observe anyone wearing a facial mask. Furthermore, that there was no social distancing,” Smith reported in a release issued Wednesday.
Five officers spent “nearly 30 minutes” clearing the parking lot, Smith stated. They didn’t find the alleged fighters.
They did contact the Quinnipiack Valley Health District, which issued a cease and desist order. The club is now closed iindefinitely. The agency cited the club for allowing a large indoor gathering, permitting a public health nuisance, and failing to ensure that customers wear masks and remain six feet apart.
