Four New Haven school staff members have tested positive for Covid-19. None exposed students to the virus, according to New Haven Public Schools Superintendent Iline Tracey.
The staff members work at Brennan-Rogers School of Communication and Media, Lincoln-Bassett School, Elm City Montessori School and Nathan Hale School.
Tracey said that the New Haven Health Department informed her about the cases on Monday evening, and she sent a message out to the school community immediately.
All four schools, except Nathan Hale, have had some in-person classes. Brennan-Rogers and Lincoln-Basset have brought a small number of students with disabilities back to school buildings, and Elm City Montessori has taken a hybrid approach as the district’s semi-independent charter school.
The cases do not pose any risk to students, Tracey said. She would not confirm whether the staff members were teachers or custodians or another type of worker who has been in school buildings. She said that the case at Brennan-Rogers had nothing to do with the classes for students with disabilities being held there.
“We cannot probe into people’s business. At the schools where we have Special Education students, according to the health department, no students were in danger,” Tracey said.
The health department now does interviews and contact tracing to find out who the staff members have interacted with and to inform those contacts to quarantine if needed.
