Hamden Mayor Curt Leng announced Wednesday evening that the town will suspend all group gatherings in town buildings until “further notice” starting on Thursday due to coronavirus.
According to his press release, the town is canceling all of its public meetings, gatherings, and other events. Legislative bodies, including the Legislative Council, the Board of Education, and the School Building Committee, will be making decisions in the days to come about how to proceed with business, the release said. Other boards and commissions will be canceled until further notice, though some may convene virtually.
Though schools are not closed, and before and after-school programs are continuing, public gatherings in school buildings are also suspended, as are sporting events.
“We know that these decisions will terribly inconvenience many and sadly disrupt loved events and annual traditions,” the release stated. “But we also know that taking these major precautions will minimize exposure and slow the spread of the virus, as stated by health professionals, and therefore is the right thing to do in order to save lives.”
