Police Thursday evening were looking for man who shot another man in the head during a dispute inside a downtown residential building.
Court Street was closed to traffic between Orange and State Streets during rush hour as police investigated the case.
The shooting occurred Thursday afternoon inside 109 Court St.
Here’s what happened, according to Police Chief Otoniel Reyes:
Two men who live in the building and know each other, apparently in their 40s or 50s, got into argument inside the building. One pulled out a gun during the argument and shot the other in the head. The shooter fled.
The victim was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he is reported in critical condition, struggling for his life.
Police know the identity of the shooter thanks to witnesses at the scene.
Reyes stressed that the shooting took place indoors between two people who know each other, not randomly out on the street.
No details were available yet on identities of those involved.
