New Police Officers Wanted

The New Haven Police Department is now hiring, and looking for applicants interested in serving as city law enforcement.

Police spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff sent out an email press release Monday afternoon about how the NHPD and the city’s Office of Human Resources have officially kicked off its latest officer recruitment efforts.

Police officer job applications are now available online at policeapp.com/newhaven

Applications must be completed and submitted online by Friday, Sept. 4, 2020.

The entry level salary for a position is $49,387 per year. Applicants must be at least 21 years old as of Nov. 4, 2020.

This is general duty police work,” the job description reads. Work involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, general enforcement of laws and ordinances as well as providing traditional and non-traditional service to the community. Work involves an element of danger and employees must be able to act without direct supervision and to exercise independent discretion. Work is performed in accordance with Department rules and regulations, the Constitution of the United States of America and the State of Connecticut.”

According to the city’s June monthly financial report, as of June 30, the police department had 240 sworn police officers current and active on the force. Overall, the department had 351 sworn personnel, including lieutenants, sergeants, detectives, captains, assistant chiefs, and the chief.
