The city plans to start construction next week on the new Dixwell Community Q” House.

Mayor Toni Harp this week signed a contract with A. Secondino & Son to oversee construction on the $16.697 million project. Secondino was the low bidder, according to City Engineer Giovanni Zinn.

Zinn estimated the job will take 18 months. We’re still trying to figure out how winter will play into that,” he said.

Dixwell Alder Jeanette Morrison, who has led the charge for the revival of the storied Dixwell neighborhood community center, noted that a group of concerned citizens kept the pressure up for eight years: I am so thankful to the concerned citizens, Jackie Bracey and her team, for carrying the torch for so long, so we all could come together.”
