Cops have charged an 18-year-old New Haven man with murdering 17-year-old Taijhon Washington on March 24.
Members of the U.S. Marshalls Task Force arrested the man in Fair Haven Wednesday on unrelated charges. Then they obtained a warrant charging him with first-degree murder, among other charges, in Washington’s death, one of two recent murders of New Haven teenagers. He is being held on a $2 million bond.
Police said they believe the arrestee acted alone in shooting both Taijhon (pictured) and Travon Washington. Travon survived the shooting.
The shooting reuslted from an ongoing gang-related feud, according to the arrest warrant affidavit, as the Register’s Rich Scinto reports in this story. The gangs included R2, a notorious Newhallville group that until recently some top police officials were insisting had not reemerged after a series of federal arrests.
