Before getting down to the business of lawmaking Monday night, aldermen took a moment for grace — with the help of two teen jazzmen.
Two teens toted their horns to the front of the Aldermanic Chamber in City Hall Monday night and filled the room with the the sounds of “Amazing Grace.”
David Elkin-Ginnetti and Corey Staggers, both 16, performed at the invitation of Corey’s dad, Alderman Carlton Staggers. The West Rock alderman called them up to conclude his offering of “Divine Guidance,” the traditional opening of meetings of the full Board of Aldermen.
Staggers said he invited the pair “just to do something different” to start the meeting. He said the pair are an example of success during a time with aldermen have set youth as a legislative priority in the city. Staggers and Elkin-Ginnetti have been playing together since they were 7 years old, he said.
