The Board of Aldermen has been replenished to full strength of 30 members, thanks to the swearing in of new Fair Haven Alderman Santiago Berrios-Bones. Meanwhile, someone is already gunning to replace him.
Mayor John DeStefano administered the oath of office to Berrios-Bones during a brief ceremony Monday evening in the atrium of City Hall.
Berrios-Bones was joined by his family, and held his granddaughter as he took the oath.
Berrios-Bones, a 64-year-old Wilbur Cross biology teacher, won a special election in Ward 14 last month. He takes the seat vacated when former Alderman Gabriel Santiago resigned in January after extended absenteeism.
Berrios-Bones thanked his supporters in the recent election and said he hopes to do a good job.
Meanwhile, a new candidate for Ward 14 alderman has emerged. Thomas Burwell, who lives on Exchange Street, filed papers on Feb. 25 to run for alderman in Ward 14.
Burwell did not return a call for comment.
