On first thought, Newhallville Alderman Charles Blango believed he had a good reason for beaching his silver Lincoln Navigator in an illegal parking spot.
He parked the vehicle in a clearly marked “No Standing Anytime” spot on Elm near Orange Wednesday afternoon.

“I couldn’t get over” while driving into the intersection, he said, when asked about his decision-making process. “I would have caused an accident. I figured I’d just run in the bank. It’d be easy.”
He was asked if instead of pulling into the space, he could have safely continued driving until finding a legal spot.
Yes, he responded. He said in fact he should have.
“Sometimes you take time for granted. I could have circled,” he said. “Just patience.”
