Police divers and firefighters Sunday morning retrieved the body of a “recently deceased” young woman from the shallow waters of the Quinnipiac River below the Grand Avenue bridge.
Also Sunday morning, the family of a despondent young woman reported her missing.
Police believe that may be the woman whose body was found, according to spokesman Officer David Hartman. Detectives have begun an investigation, and death Investigators from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner came to town to retrieve the body in order to perform an autopsy.
Update: Monday police identified the victim as Adaijah Walker.
Sunday evening, firefighters went to the Walgreens on Whalley Avenue and Ellsworth, where a tree fell on the sign outside the store, crushing it. No injuries were reported.
