Three people hired full-time by the city over the past week will earn from $44,421 to $121,315 a year.

Nicole Minervini will earn the $44,421 in her role as the new assistant animal control officer.
A third hire, Alyssa Torres, will earn $60,688 as an assistant corporation counsel.
Meanwhile, the city has posted the following five other positions for which people can apply. (You can pick up applications at the Human Resources Offices on the first floor of the 200 Orange St. government building Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
• Economic development officer/special projects ($49,186 a year).
Job description: “This position is the primary contact point between the City and the private business community. Work involves contacting existing New Haven businesses and coordinating solutions to their problems, assisting new business expansion opportunities and actively promoting the acquisition of new economic enterprises for the City. It is the mainstay of the City’s business retention program. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Director of Economic Development and is reviewed through conferences and observation of results.”
Minimum requirements: Graduation from a four-year university or college with major course work in business administration, planning or other related fields; and at least two years of direct experience dealing with the business community on a field basis for either private or public agencies and the following knowledge, abilities and skills as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Considerable knowledge of public administration and/or governmental operations as well as some experience in the private sector, preferably working within a private corporation; knowledge of basic business economics including understanding of the private sector economic system, business taxation and finance, business capital investment and private sector personnel policies; competent writing, verbal and computer skills are required as well as the ability to put together logical reports; Ability to understand specific business problems and actively work toward a solution; ability to negotiate and to coordinate with other City and/ or public agencies to effect those solutions; ability to instill confidence in the City through its dealings with the private sector.”
• Public works laborer ($20.55 per hour/ 40 hours a week).
Job description: “This is limited skilled manual and servicing work involving maintenance, repair and construction activities. Involves responsibility for the performance of manual labor, servicing and equipment operation tasks in general construction and maintenance. Involves physical labor and the operation of hand and power tools and light to medium duty automotive equipment. The work is usually closely supervised and the employee receives work instructions at the beginning of each new job; however, constant supervision is not necessary for routine and repetitive tasks which can be carried out without difficulty once these tasks are learned. As employees gain the experience and job knowledge, work assignments may become more difficult and varied.”
Minimum requirements: “Three months to one year of experience in maintenance, repair and construction activities; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: knowledge of the use of standard equipment and hand tools and ability to acquire skill in the use of such equipment and tools in the area of assignment; ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and under unfavorable weather conditions. • Board of Ed electrician ($33.06 per hour/ 40 hours a week).
Job description: “This is skilled work in electrical maintenance and repair operations, as well as electrical work for buildings and other facilities. Work assignments are received orally and/or in writing. An employee must exercise independent judgement and is responsible for the methods used and results of all work performed. Work is performed under the supervision of a foreperson.”
Requirements: “Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school with a State approved electrician’s apprentice program, and 3 to 5 years as an electrician working for a private contractor or public agency or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical installations, maintenance and repair Considerable knowledge of low voltage 110, 220 and 480 volt electrical systems. Considerable knowledge of the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical phases of oil burners, including switches, motors and electrodes. Considerable knowledge of flood lighting systems. Considerable knowledge of compressors, generators, condensate receivers, sump pumps, relays and electrical thermostats plus equipment related to the trades.
“Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 80 lbs. Requires walking and/or standing to a significant degree. Frequent bending, stooping and crouching. Occasional sitting and kneeling. Occasional pushing and pulling of carts. Occasional climbing on ladders and stairs. Frequent working from extended heights on platforms and mechanical lifts. Occasional crawling and working on knees.

• Equipment operator ($21.63 per hour/ 40 hours a week).
Job description: “This is skilled work in the operation of large complex trucks and complex construction and maintenance equipment. Work includes the safe and efficient operation, routine maintenance, and minor repair of large complex trucks, street sweepers, paving machines, bulldozers, motorgraders, large rollers, back hoes, snow plows, and sand spreaders on a full-time basis. Some positions of the class may operate equipment of a lower classification and supervise and participate in manual work when heavy equipment is not needed. Work assignments are received in the form of general work orders and are reviewed for the quantity and quality of results and the condition of the assigned equipment.”
Requirements: “Completion of the eighth school grade and 1 to 3 years of experience operating equipment of this class; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Considerable knowledge of the principles and methods of operating the assigned equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment and detect operating defects; Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently; Ability to perform work for extended periods under varying climatic conditions. • Refuse laborer ($22.08 per hour/ 40 hours a week).
Job description: “This is heavy manual work in collecting garbage and refuse. Work involves performing heavy manual work in the collection of garbage, refuse, and trash on residential routes. Work is performed as a member of a crew under close supervision.”
Minimum requirements:“A combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills, including but not limited to: Some knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions of the work; Some knowledge of the operation and minor maintenance of garbage trucks; Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees, and to deal with the public in a pleasant, courteous, and tactful manner; Physical strength sufficient, to lift and carry heavy objects over a long distance under adverse weather conditions.
