Downtown’s cooperative grocery store has a lease, 536 members, and a pledge to open “by summer’s end.”
Mark Regni, general manager of Elm City Market, made that announcement in a press release Thursday. He is putting together a cooperative market —with a mix of natural foods and “conventional” foods — on the ground floor of 360 State St., downtown’s new high rise.
“We are working at full blast to get the store open and start feeding New Haven, along with building the membership base and recruiting a talented team to operate the store,” Regni said in the press statement.
The store plans to hire 100 workers in the next 90 days. And it aims to recruit 1,000 member-owners by opening day.
