Note to politicians and bureaucrats trying to keep sunshine out of government offices: You may have to answer once again to Jonathan Einhorn.
New Haven officials answered often to Einhorn when he was a voice of conscience and ethics scrutiny on the New Haven Board of Aldermen as a lone or near-lone Republican, for 16 years, through 1991. The private attorney subsequently spent nine years as a city police commissioner.
Einhorn has a new appointment: To the state Freedom of Information Commission. His term runs through June 2013. The commission reviews appeals by reporters, other citizens, and pesky lawmakers like the former-Alderman Einhorn who feel officials are improperly withholding documents or holding public meetings behind closed doors. Sound familiar, New Haven?
