Alleged Abductor Caught

(Updated) City detectives traveling to Bridgeport found an 11-month-old baby girl — and arrested the man who allegedly abducted her and her mother.

The episode began around 3 p.m. Monday

Here’s what happened, according to policen:

A 33-year-old man got in an argument in New Haven with his 26-year-old girlfriend inside 66 Norton St., a problematic apartment building in the West River neighborhood known as New Jack City.” He threatened her with a knife and ordered her to leave with him.

There were three children in the apartment. Their grandmother got two of them out of the apartment, and she phoned 911. Meanwhile, the man directed the woman and her 11-month-old daughter into a dark blue 2002 Buick Century with tinted windows and a license plate marked 410-ZVD. And he drove off.

New Haven detectives worked with Bridgeport detectives and found the man and the girl around 5:30 p.m. The girl was unharmed. A half-hour later they found the mother. Detectives are interviewing her.

Police charged the man with risk of injury to a child and interfering with a 911 call.
