(Updated) A 37-year-old West Haven man named Jerome Christopher Moye was shot and killed Sunday on Hazel Street in Newhallville.
City police spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff sent out an email press release about the latest city homicide early Monday morning. The shooting death is the city’s 16th homicide of the year so far.
Duff wrote that, at approximately 8:13 p.m. Sunday, city police and firefighters responded to a ShotSpotter alert and 911 calls of a person shot on Hazel Street between Newhall Street and Shelton Avenue.
An ambulance transported the 37-year-old male gunshot victim with life threatening injuries to the hospital, where the man was later pronounced dead.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the fatal shooting to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203 – 946-6304.
The latest weekly CompStat report identifies that, through August 16, the city had seen 15 homicides so far this year.
New Haven has experienced one of its most violent summers in decades.
