Now that the community has buried Mae Ola Riddick, it is taking the next step in her memory — keeping alive her annual Thanksgiving food drive.
An organizational meeting is planned Monday at 5 p.m. for this year’s Thanksgiving drive, which will now be named after the Dixwell community activist who died Sept. 16 at the age of 71. Read about her death and about her life’s work here and here.
Monday’s meeting will take place at the Dixwell police substation, 26 Charles St.
“We are requesting local business to be collection points for collecting dry and nonperishable goods,” said organizer Metashar “Cindy” Bankhead Dillon. For more information call her at (860) 810‑7153 or email her .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
