New Haven has an historic 33,000 square-foot-building to show you — especially if you want to do something with it.

The building is the former Strong School at the corner of Grand Avenue and Clinton Avenue in Fair Haven. The city doesn’t need it anymore. So it has put out a request for proposals for people who want to develop it.

Officials from the city’s Office of Economic Development invite potential buyers to a walk-through of the building at 69 Grand Ave. on Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Built in 1915, the old Strong School, which still has the signs for boys and girls entrances carved above doorways, is included within the Quinnipiac River Historic District Extension’s boundaries, is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is located near some of the most historic buildings within the Fair Haven riverfront area,” according to the official description.

Prospective buyers have until June 18 to submit proposals to the city. Click here for details on how to apply.

Lee Cruz offers a tour of the building in 2013, to pitch the arts hub plan.

A coalition of local cultural groups has been working on a plan to convert the building to an arts hub; read a previous story about that here. Helen Rosenberg of the city economic development office said several groups” have expressed interest in the building; none has yet submitted a proposal.
