Sequester Could Close
Tweed-New Haven Airport

Tweed-New Haven is on a list of small airports around the country that might have to shut down if Congress and President Obama fail to reach agreement on a deficit-reduction deal this week.

About $85 billion in automatic across-the-board federal budget cuts (aka the sequester”) are scheduled to take effect Friday if no deal transpires.

They would include layoffs of airport workers like air traffic controllers.

The Obama administration announced it will close 100 out of the 200 smallest airports on April 1 if the sequester takes effect. Tweed-New Haven Airport is on that list of 200 airports.
