The test results are in: The visiting Chinese high-school student whose illness shut down last weekend’s Model UN Conference in New Haven does not have the deadly coronavirus.
“We have just received information from the State Department of Public Health that the student participating in the Yale Model United Nations program has tested negative for coronavirus after lab testing with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention,” Mayor Justin Elicker stated Friday morning in a release from his office.
“As a reminder, this is the flu season, and we all need to take preventative measures to reduce the spread of germs and respiratory virus. Our Health Department will continue to stay in communication with the State Department of Public Health regarding the coronavirus.”
From the start there was no evidence or indication that the student had the virus rather than the flu, but officials ordered extra testing for extra caution. That testing is now complete.
