Ever have trouble getting your kid into your neighborhood school?
Speak up Tuesday night, as the school district holds a public hearing on an effort to redraw the boundaries that define its neighborhood schools.
New Haven Public School’s Redistricting Committee is holding a meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Board Room on the 2nd floor of the Board of Ed headquarters at 54 Meadow St. The public is invited to “comment on issues related to the current availability of K‑8 schools.”
The committee, which consists of parents, teachers, administrators and aldermen, began meeting in April to take a fresh look at the geographic lines that determine who gets to go to the city’s 22 neighborhood schools.
The district hasn’t reexamined the boundaries for 25 years, before a massive school rebuilding effort changed the city landscape, merging elementary and middle schools into K‑8s. Mayor John DeStefano earlier this year said it’s time to revisit the boundaries; click here to read a background story.
