Agnes Beatrice Wethers Timpson, 90

Agnes Wethers Timpson, 90, of New Haven, passed away peacefully on Oct. 6, 2015.

She was the wife of the late Dr. Richard H. Timpson, Jr. Born in Washington D.C. on October 19, 1924, Agnes was the daughter of the late William and Lilian (Wilkerson) Wethers.

She is survived by her six children; Richard (Peggy Goetz) of Takoma Park, MD; Theresa (Thomas Walker) of San Francisco, CA; Robert (Holly) of Brewster, NY; Roger (Janice Furst) of Baltimore, MD; Maria of New Haven and Helene Carter (Damon) Framingham, MA; four granddaughters and four grandsons; her beloved sister Doris and cousin Lilian and a host of family and friends. Agnes was a world traveler and avid reader. She loved her family and was a peaceful presence and model of determination for all who knew her. After pursuing a career as a biologist, she dedicated her efforts to meeting community needs. She remained active in groups including the Amistad Committee, her Sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, and the Links. Among many others she served on the boards of St. Raphael’s Hospital, YWCA, New Haven Foundation and the Urban League. She also served on the Board of Governors for Public Higher Education in CT. She was recognized for her work by being awarded Honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters from Albertus Magnus College, and from Quinnipiac University where she also served on their board of trustees and is a trustee emeritus.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 12, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Martin De Porres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave., New Haven, CT with visitation Monday at the church from 9 – 10:30 AM. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven, CT. Services by Howard K.
