Annie Jo Spears transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. She was born on June 14, 1939, in Britton’s Neck, South Carolina, the daughter of Mr. Sam Davis and Ms. Tressa Woodberry.
She relocated to New Haven, Connecticut, in 1959 and began working at various companies, later retiring from the Jewish Home for the Aged in 2002.
Annie was a faithful member of New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church for 30 years, where she served as a Trustee, Pastors’ Aide Committee Member, and “Mother of the Church”.
Annie, affectionately known by her family as Jo, loved gardening and cooking southern style foods for her family. Her favorite hobby was cheering on the UCONN Women’s & Men’s Basketball teams. Annie always greeted everyone with a big smile and a hug. She loved the Lord, her family, and friends. She had a generous spirit and was always thinking of others.
Annie leaves to cherish fond memories, her children, Kenneth Woodbury and Tressa Spears Jackson; son-in-law, Qwaliff Jackson; grandson, Isaiah Jackson; sister, Itleane “Kate” Gause; brother, Monroe Richardson; brother-in-law, Demary Gause; two special nieces, Casey Joseph and LaToya Gause; special grandniece, Raven Joseph; seven sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Zollie “Jimmie” Spears; sisters, Ester Woodberry, Odessa Moore, Clara Davis, Hessie Lee Legette, and Rosena Parker; and brothers, Sam Davis, George Davis, Sherman Davis, Jake Davis, Robert Davis Levester Taylor, and June Rogers.
The legacy of Annie Jo Spears will remain in the hearts of her loving and devoted family, church family, and many friends.
