Ben M. Ligon, 95

Ben M. Ligon, age 95, of New Haven, Conn., passed away on Friday, Dec. 13, 2024. He was the husband of Martha A. Ligon, who passed away in 2011. Ben was born on Feb. 20, 1929, to the late George W. Ligon, Sr. and Gussie Finley Ligon in Laurens, S.C.

Ben served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and was honorably discharged. Ben was a hard-working man. For many years, he worked as a licensed air conditioning and refrigeration technician. In addition to being a technician, he held many jobs, including jobs at Seamless Rubber Company and TRW-Geometric Tool, both in New Haven. He also worked at Sandvik Inc. in Branford, Conn., until he retired in 1994. 

Ben enjoyed his retirement for a few years, but he missed working. He became a security guard for Securitas and worked for ACORN Management Group at 55 Church St. in New Haven, where he was fondly known as Mr. Ben.” He retired from this last job in 2010 at 81 years old.

Ben leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Lisa (Darnell) Manuel of Hamden, Conn.; stepson, Michael Beasley of Spotsylvania, Va.; sisters, Mozell Jenny Lewis and Allie Mae Latimer of Laurens, S.C.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was predeceased by five brothers, George W. Jr., Albert, David, Clarence, and Ernest; and three sisters, Flossie, Clara and Mildred.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St., New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
