On June 9, 2024, God with his infinite wisdom, welcomed his daughter Carolyn Ruth Worthy home to begin her eternal rest in heaven. Carolyn was born September 10,1954 to her mother Betty Worthy and her father Cable Jamison. Carolyn was raised in Tidewater, West Virgina until the age of seven. At the age of seven Carolyn arrived in New Haven, CT where she was greeted by a host of family members.
Carolyn was educated within the New Haven Public School System (Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, Troup Middle School, James Hillhouse High School). While attending James Hillhouse High School, Carolyn was the secretary for her class, the captain of the cheerleading squad, as well as the program chairman for the class of 1973 class night.
Carolyn retired in October 2020 as an administrative associate for the Nathan Smith Clinic. In 2008, after more than 40 years of dedicated service, she was honored by the institution in their “I am Yale-New Haven Wall of Medicine Fame”
“Many patients who walk through our door are seriously ill so it’s hard. I tell them we’re going to be good to them and offer the best treatment possible”- Carolyn Worthy.
Carolyn was also honored by the New Haven Mayor’s Task Force on HIV/Aids for the Elsie Cofield Award. She has been recognized by her team as having a “can do!” attitude and for her extraordinary acts of kindness and professionalism. It was remarked that Carolyn was devoted to improving the working and healing conditions for her colleagues and patients alike.
Carolyn was also a member of MT. Zion Temple Pentecostal Church for many years and served as a communications and media specialist. On August 19, 2018, she received an award for Sunday School and Bible Study Attendance. She also received a certificate of Baptism from Mt. Zion Temple Pentecostal Church on May 26, 2019. Carolyn was a beacon of hope, love, and wisdom to not only her family and friends, but by all that knew her. To know her was to love her.
Carolyn was predeceased by her mother, Betty Worthy; father, Cable Jamison; grandmother, Rosetta White; brothers, Nathaniel Worthy, Sr. and Anthony Worthy; uncle, Paul Fulton; and son-in-law, Tyrone Henyard.
She leaves to cherish her memory and to continue her legacy, lifetime partner, Roderick Cox of Hamden, CT; sons, Khalid Worthy, Sr. (Shayna) of Stone Mountain, GA and Charlie White, Jr. of New Haven, CT; daughters, Rehema Cornelius (Vincent) of Hamden, CT and Nicole Cox of West Haven, CT; grandchildren, Khalid Worthy Jr., Nakhai Worthy, Giovanni Henyard, Lyric Henyard, Tylee Henyard, Niyel Cornelius, and Elias Cornelius; and a host of family and friends.
Carolyn Ruth Worthy was our gem that cannot be replaced but we find peace and strength in the lord in knowing she is no longer in pain.
