Catherine Moore (Seay), affectionately known as Muddie, aged 95, of New Haven, CT, departed this life on Friday, July 12, 2024. Catherine was born on July 3, 1929, to parents Walsie and Willie D. Seay in Nashville, TN, she was the cherished matriarch of her family and a revered member of her community.
A dedicated retiree of Sargent Manufacturing and The New Haven Register, Catherine was esteemed for her work ethic and warm-hearted nature. Her commitment to her faith was evident through her longstanding membership at the Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she was a devout participant in church affairs.
Catherine’s elegance and grace were apparent to all who knew her. She was a pillar of strength, always placing family at the forefront of her life, and she found great joy in the happiness of her loved ones. A connoisseur of fashion, she carried herself with a poise that inspired those around her, and she graciously served as a volunteer within her senior community, touching lives through her active engagement.
Her creative soul shone through in her leisurely pursuits of sewing, knitting, painting, and gardening. Catherine possessed a zest for travel, and she encouraged others to seek out the wonders of the world with open hearts and minds.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Kwan Ware (Demarco), her adoring grandchildren Fallyn Moore, Kwanita McNeil, Kimberly Westley, Kelwynne Westley, Kenneth Westley (Angel), Demarco Ware, Milton Westley, Jr., and her 27 great-grandchildren.
Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Moore; her daughter Sandra Jean Westley; parents Walsie and Willie D. Seay; siblings Virginia Seay, Margaret Watley, Mae Lillian Patterson, Dorothy Brown, and Willie Seay, Jr.; and granddaughter Maria Westley.
Funeral services were held at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 425 Newhall St., Hamden, CT, on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 11 am, with a Calling Hour from 10 am until the time of service. Interment followed at Beaverdale Memorial Park. Howard K. Hill Funeral Services of New Haven, CT, is entrusted with arrangements.
