Christine Carmichael, 74, of New Haven, CT entered eternal rest on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, surrounded by her family. Christine was born on September 16, 1949, to the union of James and Grace Carmichael, the first of 12 children, in Mullins, SC. The family then relocated to Connecticut when Christine was 14 years of age. Christine was educated in the New Haven Public School system, graduating from Lee High School and furthering her education at Stone Academy. Christine was a former employee of the City of New Haven. She was later employed by St. Raphael’s Hospital in Medical Records where she retired in 2012 after 35 years of service.
Christine gave birth to her first child Stephen Carmichael (1967). She then met the love of her life Wallie McCown at the age of 18. To that union, she gave birth to Wallie Carmichael (1981) and her only baby girl, Stephany Carmichael (1985). Christine loved and cherished her children and family. They were her pride & joy. Christine was affectionately known as the second mother and protector to her siblings, which gave her the ability to master being a mom because she was the oldest child. Christine changed the natural ability to enter the room and change the atmosphere with her loving smile, kind words, and her bold personality. She was known to get you laughing and let’s not forget she could get you straight.
Christine leaves to cherish her precious memories, her sons, Stephen Carmichael of Albany, NY and Wallie Carmichael of New Haven, CT; only daughter, Stephany Carmichael of New Haven, CT; grandchildren, Ashley Carmichael, Sanaa Smith, and Phin Van-Wyck; great-grandson Kenzo Castillo; brothers, James Carmichael of West Haven, CT, Bishop Frankie Carmichael of Hamden, CT, and Lindy Carmichael of Milford, CT; sisters, Essie Jones (Todd) and Annie L. Williams both of West Haven, CT; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, James and Grace Carmichael; the love of her life, Wallie McCown; maternal grandparents, Minnifield and Annie Mae Reaves-Davis; paternal grandparents, Hubbard and Ezzie Carmichael; sisters, Juanita and Arlene Carmichael; brothers, Billy, Herbert, Benjamin, and Johnny Carmichael; sister-in-law, Dr. Kim Carmichael; brother-in-law, Herman Williams; nephew, Derrick Williams; great-nephew, Marshont Fuller; and great-niece, Shafonady Denny.
A celebration of her life took place Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Kingdom Love Center, 19 George St, Hamden, CT 06514. Services by Howard K.
