Delores Moore Knight, 75

Recently retired Republic Registrar of Voters Delores Moore Knight, 75, of New Haven passed away suddenly on April 4. She was born on November 29, 1944, in Southport, NC to Ruth Moore Walker.

She attended school in Wilmington, NC and graduated from Williston High School in 1962. At that time she migrated north to Philadelphia and eventually to New Haven, where she remained for the remainder of her life.

Delores was employed as a purchasing agent at the New Haven Housing Authority for many years before shifting gears and becoming an employee at the City of New Haven in 1986, where she was worked as Deputy Republican Registrar of Voters and eventually the Republican Registrar of Voters. She retired in September 2019.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Lisa Garrett of New Haven, Stepdaughters Saadia Dublin of New London and Jamie Knight of Charlotte, NC, Aunts Priscilla Moore of Southport, NC and Loretta Moore of New Haven, Uncle Leonard Moore of Southport, NC, Sisters-in-law Gloria Daniels and Mae Knight of New Haven, 13 grandchildren (Ashlei, Sharon, Antuan G, Tyrese, RayShon, Daquawn, Antoine K, Shaquanna, Marquise, Robert, Robin, James, Jamar, and Brandon) and multiple great-grandchildren. She also leaves her dear friend Thelma Savage and her adopted” son Sherrick Johnson as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Delores was predeceased by her mother Ruth Moore Walker, husband James Knight, sisters Evelyn Walker and Deborah Ringwood, brother Alvin Moore, sons Alfred Garrett and Keith Garrett, Stepson James L Knight, Stepdaughter Karen Knight, Sisters-in-law Ruth Moore, Selma Givens and Brother-in-law Larry Knight.

A celebration will be held Tues. April 21,2020 at 10am-11a.m at McClam Funeral Home, 95 Dixwell Ave. New Haven, CT 06511. Interment will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Services of comfort entrusted to McClam Funeral Home. To leave a message of comfort for the Knight family, McClam Funeral Home
