Dennis Day, 65

Dennis was born and raised in New Haven, Conn., on July 24, 1959. He attended James Hillhouse High School. Shortly thereafter he went to work for Yale University in the Mail Room, and over the years he worked his way up in the physical plant to roofer. Dennis retired after nearly 30 years of service.

Dennis was also an avid musician. As a self-taught drummer, he acquired the nickname Mad Drummer.” Dennis played with many Gospel groups, including playing and recording with the Gospel Traveliers.”

Dennis was a kind and gentle man with a witty personality. He enjoyed having family and friends around to entertain. 

Dennis succumbed to a lengthy illness on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, Shilet Jennings-Day; siblings, Sondra Day, Doreathea Daniley, Rita Day, Claudette LeBlue, Vincent Day, Anthony Day, and Harold Day; nieces, Diane (Joe), Darlene, and Vivian; nephew, John Daniley (Hazel); and a host of relatives and friends. Dennis was predeceased by his mother, Doris Day; sister, Doris McBride; brothers, Ralph Day and Albert Chambers; and nephew, Ronnie Daniley. 

A celebration of his life will take place Monday, Jan. 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St., New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call Monday at the funeral home from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven.
