On Sunday, Oct. 27, in the year of our lord 2024, The Arc Angel Gabriel sounded his horn and the matriarch of her family, at the age of 90, answered the call and peacefully went home.
She was born Dolores Wright on Aug. 6, 1934 to the late James and Helen Wright.
Dolores was educated in the New Haven Public School System, graduating from James Hillhouse High School. Upon graduation, she blissfully entered matrimony with Frederick Barross. To this union, three children were born: Darryl, Renee, and Keith.
Dolores would then continue her higher education at South Central Community College. She continued her graduate work at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Conn., focusing on the studies of Social Work. Her advocacy in her professional, as well as her personal life, led to the betterment of any and all who crossed her path.
Gifted with the heart of a saint, Dolores was known to harbor, uplift, and guide those in need. She was always ready to feed someone.
As the tide of the oceans ebb and flow, she then bore into the world another son, Eric Anthony Barross aka (her JESUS).
Dolores was a connoisseur of Jazz, a great conversationalist, and an avid reader. She didn’t mince her words when offering advice or formulating solutions when asked of her opinion.
In her latter years, before ending her work career, she was employed at West Rock Healthcare Center.
Dolores leaves to cherish her memories, daughter, Renee G. Barross; son, Eric A. Barross of Georgia; two grandsons, Yohahnce E. Barross of Georgia and Ian Barross of New York; two granddaughters, Candice Barross of Connecticut and Breea Barross of Georgia; two great-grandsons, Hassan Barross of Georgia and Malik Sessions of New Haven; great-granddaughter, Tarran Mims of Georgia; nephew of nephews, Leon D. Brown (Buster) of New Haven; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A celebration of her life will take place Monday, Nov. 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call Monday at the funeral home between 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.
