Ella Elizabeth Gomes, 92

On July 15, 1929, in Greenville, North Carolina a cry came forth and joy filled the hearts of the late Julius and Katie (Saunders) Capehart as God brought into this world and blessed their family with a precious angel in the person of Ella Elizabeth Capehart.

At the young tender age of seven years old Ella lost her mother, Katie. She was then raised by her beloved Aunt and Uncle, Clifton and Susie Edwards in West Haven, Connecticut. They instilled in Ella exceptional family morals, standards, and work ethics which guided her throughout life. She would later deposit them into her own children and grandchildren.

As Ella matured and grew into a beautiful young woman, she gave birth to her first child, later, she met Leroy Milton Gomes, they joined in holy matrimony in New Haven, CT, and grew their family as God blessed the union with three children.

For many years Mrs. Ella Gomes was employed at the VA Hospital in West Haven, CT. Her employment later transitioned to Winchester Gun Factory in New haven, CT where she later retired.

Mrs. Ella Gomes was a woman who was extremely reliable. She was dedicated and loyal to her family and friends. Her home was always an open door to all, she would frequently take in those who had nowhere to live, and would never shut her door to anyone. She loved her children dearly, but when the grandchildren came along, they won her heart, for quality time with them was deeply valued.

Mrs. Ella Gomes had a love for people like no other. She enjoyed taking care of people and kids; and she found joy in the smallest things. She enjoyed listening to music and dancing. Years ago, she would compete and win dance competitions throughout Connecticut.

Mrs. Ella was a strong willed, and strong minded individual. She never complained about anything. Even when she faced tough times, she did not complain. She was extremely active even in her 90’s. She enjoyed playing games with the family, she taught almost everyone how to play Bingo and Solitaire. She loved to cook and especially Sunday dinners, and prepare birthday meals for her family.

One of the most important aspects of Mrs. Gomes’ life is the day that she gave her life to the Lord. She enjoyed community fellowship services led by Church on the Rock. There is no doubt that Mrs. Ella lived her final days at peace with God.

At 92 years old, on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 Mrs. Ella Elizabeth Gomes entered peacefully into eternal rest as the angels in Heaven welcomed her home. Ella was predeceased by her mother, Katie (Saunders) Capehart, father Julius Capehart, two sons, Milton Gomes and Celestine Capehart, Uncle Clifton Edwards, Aunt Susie Edwards, three siblings, Buddy Capehart, David Edwards and Albert Cooper and grandson, Keron Robinson.

Ella leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy, two daughters Clency Capehart and Brenda Capehart (Curtis) Pue of New Haven, CT, one sibling, Joy Edwards of Stamford, CT, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 7 great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

Mrs. Ella Elizabeth Gomes was an exceptional Mother, grandmother, and friend. She was one of the greatest and most inspiring gifts that God blessed our lives with. We salute our beloved matriarch rest in Jesus.
