Eugene Scott McDougal III, 51

Eugene Scott McDougal III, formerly of New Haven, passed away in his home in Hartford on Oct. 26.

He was 51 years old. He was the loving son of Diane Hart of Hartford, who also is formerly of New Haven, and the loving son of Eugene O. McDougal of Reston, Va. He leaves to cherish him, four sisters, Dawn Odom of West Haven; Jill McDougal of New Haven; Lauren Stucky of Alabama; Allyson McDougal of Virginia; two nieces Shalonda McDougal of West Haven, and Rhonda McDougal of Hamden; three nephews Cedric Mitchell of New Haven, Otis Powell of West Haven, and Torey McDougal of New Haven.

He also leaves an aunt, Antoinette Hart of West Haven, a cousin, Marc Little of Los Angeles, Calif., an uncle, Rev. Terry McDougal of Coatesville, Pa., two great-nieces, and two great-nephews.

Scott was an avid lover of sports from the age of 12. He was a left-handed pitcher for 95 House and played ball and was good friends with Sen. Joe Lieberman’s son, Matt. No one could get a hit when he pitched because he was left-handed. He was the only black on the team and they loved him. He received an award for the best pitcher which was published in the New Haven Register

He attended James Hill House High School and Lee High School where he played football at both schools and became well-known. He also liked to write music and made several demos in New York City. He worked at Seramonte Apartments in Hamden, Jimmies of Savin Rock in West Haven, and several other jobs, but was always writing music.

In 2004 he moved to Hartford with his mother who retired from Yale Law School. He became disabled in 2011 when he was seriously bit in his leg by a Hartford police dog for not stopping at a stop sign. Scott died on Oct. 26 when the wound became infected. He was always a loving and caring son who cared about his mother. He will always be missed by her. He was baptized at 11 years old and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in New Haven. Before he died he was saved and now he is eternally in his heavenly home with the Lord. God bless you, Scott. We all miss you and love you.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at McClam Chapel. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held in Evergreen Cemetery. Services of comfort entrusted to McClam Funeral Home, 95 Dixwell Ave., New Haven, CT. To leave a message for the McDougal family please visit www.mcclamfuneralhome.net.
