Hazel Mae Harrington, the daughter of late Willie Clifton Harrington, and the late Mary Louise Harrington. She was born in Rocky Hill. Hazel worked at the Hamden Children’s Center, where she utilized her doctor assistant degree. She was a volunteer at Katherine Brennan elementary school as a volunteer. Because of her giftedness at working with children, she was asked by Dr. James Comer to assist him in his work. Dr. James P. Comer is a leading child psychiatrist who has served as the Maurice Falk Professor of Child Psychiatry at the Yale Child Study Center since 1976.
At a very young age, Hazel professed her faith in Christ, and in her young adult years, she served in several churches in the Apostolic Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, as a youth counselor and choir director, under the leaderships of Elder Charles Mitchell, pastor of Little Refuge of the Apostolic Faith, and Bishop John H. Green, of One Way Church of Christ, of the Apostolic Faith.
Not only was Hazel a worker in the church, but she had also been a light in the community for young and old alike, where she lived at the Brookside Apartments, and later moved to Blue Cliff Terrace, where she quietly lived out the rest of her days. She was preceded in death by her parents and her only sister Evelyn Green, AKA, Ezzie.
She leaves to cherish her memories, nephew Pastor Benjamin L. Green (Gladys Green), niece Gina Fludd, nephew Dane Clark Green (Gladys Green), nephew Lennis Kyle Green (Sharon Johnson Green) great nephew Lenny Smith (Katina), great nieces and nephews Tenille, Joseph, Lamar, Dane Jr., Raelle, Jonas, Tyson, Adonis, Nova, Jermaine, Cortez, Treyshawn and Loraina.
A Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024 at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St., New Haven. Friends may call Thursday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.
