Hugh Bullock, Jr. (BO) passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024. Born on August 26, 1945, to the late Hugh and Ruby (McClain) Bullock in Apex, N.C. As a young man, he attended school in Apex. The values of neatness in appearance, pride, and a strong work ethic were instilled in him as a child.
Upon arriving in New Haven as a youth, Hugh continued his education at Wilbur Cross High School and started working as a caddy on Saturdays. During his years at school, he met and fell in love with Lorraine (Dina) Mabry. She was the love of his life. This whirlwind romance continued resulting in a marriage that lasted over 60 years and produced two wonderful sons, Hugh III; and Keith.
Over the years, Hugh developed a love for fishing and boats. As the years progressed, he and his sons would take his boat out and fish all day. They would challenge one another to see who caught the biggest or the most fish.
Hugh also loved sports. He would go to see his sons play basketball. As time passed, he grew more interested in baseball. His favorite team was the New York Yankees. He could watch the game all day.
Hugh worked at Rockbestos, upon leaving there he worked for Winchesters until their closing. He then worked for Federal Express as a courier until he retired. He loved working for Federal Express, it was his dream job.
Hugh was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Ruby Bullock; grandparents, Plummer, and Hershey McClain; Thomas and Julia Bullock; Brothers, Thomas Bullock Sr.; Algernon Bullock; Niece, Melissa Dawkins Doumbia; in-laws, Leroy and Olivia Mabry; Carrie Hugee; brothers-in-law, Esaw Seays and Leroy Mabry, Jr.
Hugh is survived by his wife Lorraine Bullock; sons, Hugh, III and Keith Bullock; grandchildren, Trinity and Sophie Bullock, Sisters; Judy Brooks-Seays; Sondra Mills; and Brenda (Wilbert) Gibson; sisters-in-law, Carrie Johnson; Debo-rah (John) Alston; and Louise Mabry. Hugh also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of his life will take place Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Union American Methodist Episcopal Church, 1267 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511.
