Jean Washington, 77

Jean Washington, age 77, of New Haven, Connecticut, passed away on December 17, 2023. She was born on February 27, 1946, in Williamston, North Carolina, to the late Ralph and Nossie Lee Mason. 

Jean was a steward for the Lord and kept Him at the center of her life. She was a woman of faith and dedicated herself to showing others the goodness of the Lord. Her impact on the lives of all those she touched was a testament to her unwavering commitment. Jean had a joyful spirit and a kind heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She had a contagious laugh that brightened the room and endeared her to everyone she met.

Jean is survived by her loving husband, Leon Washington; son, Gary Mason; daughter, Yolanda Washington Miller; granddaughter, Britney Mason; sister, Vanessa Williams; brothers, John Alvin Mason, Melvin Mason, Kelvin Mason, and Ray Mason; and great-grandson, Kendriece Mason. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Mason; mother, Nossie Lee Mason; brothers, Jimmie Mason and Sherman Lee Mason; and granddaughter, Kendra Mason.

Jean attended E.J. Hayes High School and later embarked on a fulfilling career as a Unit Clerk at St. Raphael’s Hospital, where she dedicated herself to serving others. After a long and successful career, she retired and enjoyed spending her time pursuing her hobbies. Jean found joy in Gospel Ministry, reading, crossword puzzles, and cooking.

A homegoing service was held to celebrate Jean’s life on Friday, December 29, 2023, at St. Mary’s UFWB Church, located at 266 Shelton Ave, New Haven, CT

Jean Washington’s legacy of love, faith, and kindness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community she touched with her unwavering devotion and genuine compassion. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
