Jeannette Alice Mero Thomas, 91 of New Haven, entered into eternal rest at her residence on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024. She was born on October 26, 1932. She was the eldest of four children born to Albert Wesley & Alice (Wilson) Mero. She was educated in the New Haven School system and graduated from James Hillhouse High School in 1951. She lived in the City of New Haven and her roots date back to the 1700s — in both the Greater New Haven and Fairfield County areas.
Jeannette is predeceased by her brothers: Albert Wesley Mero, Robert Verdell Mero, and Harrison Hannibal Mero, and her son, Samuel Edgar Dixon.
Jeannette is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Herbert Lee Thomas, her daughter, Jacqueline Buster, and grandson, Rahni Alexander Lawrence; sisters-in-law, Shirley Mero and Idel Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nephews, adopted family members, cousins, great-great nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the St. Paul’s and St. James Episcopal Church, 57 Olive Street, New Haven CT, officiated by Reverend David Thomas. Friends and family may call Friday at the church from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Eastside Cemetery of Woodbridge, Woodbridge, CT.
