José Gabriel Barcacel, 34, currently of New Haven, passed away on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023. He was born on March 6, 1989 in Stamford, CT to Caroline Fonseca and Jose Barcacel. He attended Stamford Public Schools and graduated from Stamford High School. He also attended Norwalk Community College.
José was a wonderful soul with a great smile. He was very smart, intuitive, and one of the most stand-up guys you will ever meet. He also had a big heart and loved his family very much. José would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it; he was very selfless. Every day he told his family how proud he was of us and we’re also proud of him. It’s an honor to call him a son/brother. For most of his life, Jose was a professional chef and was great at it. His passion for cooking started when he was only 12 years old. He told his mom he wanted to learn how to cook, and ever since, has been a master chef. He usually did the cooking at home and loved the happiness it brought his family.
José leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Caroline Fonseca; father, José Barcacel; older sister, Zuleika Gil; younger siblings, Alexis Barcacel and Xavier Barcacel; nieces, Ariana Barcacel, Liliana Barcacel, Viviana Barcacel, Jocelyn Gil, Sophia Gil, and Abigail Gil; nephews, Jovani Barcacel and Xavier Barcacel, Jr.; and a host of relatives and friends.
If we had to choose a son/brother, he would be our first pick each and every time! He suffered and fought hard every day with his mental health. It lasted so long because he was such a great fighter! Unfortunately, he lost the battle … but fortunately he doesn’t have to be in this sad, cold world anymore. José is in a better place where he can be truly happy!
A visitation will be held Friday, November 24, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Iglesia Mision Pentecostal, 132 Glenbrook Rd, Stamford, CT 06902. Interment will be private. Services by Howard K.
