Kelvin Jamison, 62, of New Haven, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Lawrence and Margaret Jamison on July 17, 1962.
While growing up, Kelvin was a member of Boy Scouts Troop # 213. He graduated from Bassick High School in Bridgeport in 1980. While in high school, he was an avid defensive lineman for the football team.
Kelvin loved working with kids and being a mentor. After attending Salem College in West Virginia, he began a rewarding career as a Juvenile Detention Officer with the State of Connecticut. He enjoyed mentoring children and being a positive resource for them for 20 years, retiring in 2007. Outside of work, he was an Activities Director and basketball coach at the New Haven Boys and Girls Club and Hill Coop Community Youth Center.
Being a father to Krissy and grandfather to Arielle was Kelvin’s most cherished role that held near and dear to his heart. He loved hearing his granddaughter call him “Papa”. His favorite memories with Krissy and Arielle will be summer days at the beach, laughs at the park, story time with ice cream, and the excitement of him teaching them to ride their bikes. He Kelvin enjoyed sports. He especially loved The Washington Redskins football team. He was a longtime loyal fan making sure to never miss a game.
Kelvin leaves to cherish his memory, daughter, Kristin “Krissy” Brown; granddaughter, Arielle JeanPaul; brother, Kenneth Jamison; honorary lifetime brothers, Dario Dunbar, David Johnson, Terance “Tone” Staton, Dexter Edmonds, and Mark Napoli; nephews, Shadd Jamison, Kenneth Jamison, Jr., and Lance Jamison; and a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael Jamison and Travis “Bo” Jamison.
A celebration of his life will take place Friday, August 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Ave, New Haven, CT 06511.
