Lawrence “Larry” Amendola, of New Haven, died peacefully on April 21, 2024, at Connecticut Hospice.
Larry was born in New Haven on January 16, 1934, to the late Michael “Nick” and Mary DePalma Amendola. After graduating high school, Larry enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. After being honorably discharged, he began a career working for the City of New Haven, first in the CETA Program then later working for Dept. of Parks and Recreation. He served as President of AFSCME Local 3144 Management Union for over 20 years and was also the Vice-President of the St. Andrew the Apostle Society for 30 years and volunteered many hours at the annual festa. Larry was the recipient of the Steve Vuolo Award.
Larry is survived by his companion of 17 years Flora D’Elsi and many cherished nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Rose SanMarco and Marie Camera and a brother Andrew Amendola.
Visiting hours will be Thursday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Pl. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Michael Church, 29 Wooster Place, NH, at 11:00am. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
