Mildred A. Huggins, 90

Mildred A. Huggins, age 90, entered eternal life on November 19, 2019.

Mildred was born on November 28,1928 in Washington, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in her transition by her parents Andrew and Bertha Singley, her siblings Mary Pressley, Hattie Turner, Robert Singley, Belle Howard, James Gallman and former husbands Eric Huggins and Henry Burns and recently by her daughter-in-law Pamela Huggins. Survivors include Her son, Dwayne Huggins of Pasadena, MD. Her daughter Sandra Burns who lovingly cared for her for six years and her daughter Vanessa Burns of Louisville, KY, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mildred was also surrounded by special friends Chris and Henry Czarny and their children Maroussia and Noah, Liz and Daniel Knoblach whose late father Frank was one of Millie’s best friends. In addition, her dear friends Dottie, Justine Rogers, Sara Nixon and Alyce Moore were supportive of Millie in good times or bad. She was also blessed to be lovingly taken care of by Sandy Pratts.Their relationship was one of professionalism, love and laughter. She is also survived by her sisters-in-laws Anne Gallman, Evelyn Singley and Marilyn Reece.

Her heart and soul however were her two grandsons Evan and Ian Huggins whose every accomplishment brought her great joy.

Mildred spent 54 years in West Haven in a house she treasured and hosted many cookouts and holiday parties. She was employed for 25 years at Connecticut Mental Health Center and she attended most of her Ansonia High School reunions up until the 70th.

She will be missed for her warmth by all who knew her, and her laugh will never be forgotten. Her ability to maintain a sense of humor even when age and illness took its toll.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday December 5, 2019 at Varick AME Zion Church, 242 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, at 11 a.m.
