Pinkie Mae Bolden, fondly known as Pinkie to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2024, in South Chesterfield, VA. Born on March 4, 1934, in Montgomery, AL, Pinkie’s vibrant spirit and nurturing nature touched the lives of everyone she met throughout her 90 years.
Pinkie grew up in a bustling household as one of many siblings. She was a cherished sister to Andrew Johnson (Teila) of Florida, Lonnie Johnson (Mary) of Florida, Joseph Johnson of Georgia, Dorthy Johnson Taylor (Buddy) of Georgia, Willie Mae Johnson Jones of Georgia, and Betty Williams of Florida. She was also a guiding light in the lives of her 20 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her dearly.
Her heart was always with her loving family, including her devoted daughters, Joanne (Arthur) Taylor, Willadean (Johnny) Williams, and Pamela Bolden; and her caring sons, Roosevelt (Cynthia) Bolden, Roger Bolden, Alfred Bolden, Danny (Collette) Bolden, Victor Bolden, James Bolden, and Clinton Bolden. Pinkie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Alford Bolden, her parents, James Henry Johnson and Pearlie Mae Clayton Johnson, her brothers Johnnie Lee Robinson, Norris Johnson, Sam Johnson, Roosevelt Johnson, Johnnie Lee Roper, Thomas Roper, William Holloman, and her sisters Helen Johnson Simpson, Liza Ann Billing, Bertha Ann Johnson, Mary Johnson Wilson, Lula Johnson Boskey, and Carrie Roper. She also bore the loss of her sons William Bolden, Alton Bolden, and Ricky Battle.
Professionally, Pinkie was a dedicated Certified Nurses Assistant with The Visiting Nurses Association. Her compassionate care and unwavering support were a comfort to countless individuals and families during her many years of service. Her work was not just a job; it was a manifestation of her innate desire to help others and make a difference in the world.
Outside of her professional life, Pinkie was a woman of many interests. She had a passion for shopping, finding joy in the simple pleasure of a new find. Traveling was another of her loves, as she was always ready for an adventure and eager to explore new places. Fishing provided her with tranquil moments of reflection by the water, and her love for flowers was evident in the beautiful gardens she cultivated with care.
As someone who lived her life with intention and joy, Pinkie loved to say, “If God Will” and “I’ll See You Tomorrow If God Says So.” These quotes were a testament to how Pinkie navigated her journey through life, feeling each experience deeply and sharing her heart with those around her.
Pinkie Mae Bolden’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and generosity. She was a beacon of light in her community, a source of strength within her family, and an example of the profound impact one person can have on the world. As we bid farewell to Pinkie, we take solace in knowing that her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved and the lives she touched.
Pinkie’s life will be celebrated with a service that honors the joy and warmth she brought to all of us. As we gather to remember her, we will share stories, laughter, and the love that she so freely gave. Her memory will be cherished forever, a beautiful reminder of a life well-lived and a woman dearly loved.
A celebration of her life will take place Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM St. Matthew’s UFW Baptist Church, 400 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT 06511.
