The two New Haven state representatives facing visible challenges — Democrats Bob Megna and Pat Dillon — ended up cruising to reelection Tuesday.
The unofficial tally from voting machines showed Dillon crushing Republican Jim O’Connell by a 9‑to‑1 margin, 5,021 to 563 for the 92nd General Assembly seat, which covers the Edgewood, West River, Dwight, and Westville neighborhoods as well as a tiny sliver of the Hill; and Megna defeating Republican John Cirello 2,927 to 1130 to retain the 97th District seat, which represents the east side of town. The Democrats’ margins of victory are expected to grow after absentee ballots and same-day-registration votes are tallied later Tuesday night.
Dillon first won her seat in 1984, Megna in 2000.
After the returns came in, Dillon said she feels “grateful, excited, and ready to work.”
