The crew at the registrar of voters office caught a few winks after 2 a.m. Wednesday and were back at 200 Orange St. later in the morning slogging through mounds of uncounted ballots to arrive at the city’s official election results.
The office called in reinforcements around midnight after it was overwhelmed by a larger-than-expected turnout for Election Day registration (EDR) and voting; 619 people waited in often long lines to take advantage of that new law, while moderators had to turn away around 100 others who didn’t make it through the door in time. (Read about that here.)
Vote-talliers said they expect to be complete with the official results, including absentee-ballot and EDR counts, some time Wednesday afternoon.
